About my Fused Glass

Since buying a kiln in 2019 (admittedly on a bit of a whim) I have started making FUSED GLASS. I enjoy experimenting with this beautiful but unpredictable and frustrating substance called glass.

It arrives in sheets of vibrant colours, in many different forms: transparent or opaque, iridescent, textured and dichroic. By layering glass, adding powders, frits, stringers you can make a huge amazing variety of pieces for inside or out. They can be decorative: suncatchers, hangers, pictures. Practical: coasters, bowls, and candle holders. Stand alone pieces or anything else your imagination can come up with. I also make my own glass pieces to go into my mosaics so I am able to combine both art forms to unique effect.

HOW IT’S DONE. Cutting is the key skill required but it is a totally different process and technique from mosaic cutting so the first thing I needed to do was get some tuition. I have had lessons with Eleanor at Rainbow Glass Studios in north London. She taught me the basics and I have since returned for further expert help. As with most things, once you know the basics it is all down to practice. I was amused to realise that, just like my mosaic work, I am driven more by inspiration than pure technique.

I now exhibit and sell my fused glass work and have received several commissions.
